The stamp duty tax break was due to end on March 31st but, thanks to Chancellor Rishi Sunak’s budget, it has now been extended until June 30th on properties worth up to £500,000. After that, the starting rate of stamp duty will be £250,000 until the end of September, and from October onwards will then return to the usual level of £125,000.
The new ‘mortgage guarantee’ announced in the budget starts in April, when the government will guarantee 95% mortgages to help those who can only afford a 5% deposit.
